A Catastrophic Life | Abigale Kyra Fernandes

A poem written in dedication to World Refugee Day written by By ABIGALE KYRA FERNANDES a Grade 10 student of GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai.

A CATASTROPHIC LIFE
I look behind, to the country of mine
A home to my dear, eternally I loved.
The songs of joy we sang as children,
Ringing the hymn of a playful childhood .
Was it the same, I ask myself ?
The screams still haunt, those darkest days
Like nothing we want but a peaceful day
Homes destructed, loved astray, the bells of joy are now of pain.
I travel through time,
And still I whine
Aren’t those selfish hearts ,fed with guilt ?
They offer me gold, a toast and jewels
All I want is to cast a spell
One of love, peace and brotherhood
For nothing can buy those smiles I say,
Show us the way I ask all day.
Religion, race , colour and gender,
May bury their heads in the pages of history,
Women and children, old and young
May all walk free.
Till mountains rejoice,
Brimming the river that quenches the thirst,
Immortal love it holds for us.
Let it be an awful dream,
That ends it’s grief with the shadow of thee.
A catastrophic life, I’ve left behind
To keep in mind and remind
For now or never,
It’s lost forever.
